地位
电贝斯在乐队演奏中属于最高地位,是最重要的。所以一个没有好贝斯手的乐队不是一个合格的乐队。这种定论——非来自于我个人的见解;不同于一个刚涉及电声化乐队的某一乐手耳中的那明显的吉他和键盘的声音。
在P-BASS诞生之前,乐队的贝司手只能用硕大的DOUBLE BASS。这种类似大提琴的贝司非常不利于携带,而且非常的笨拙,而且DOUBLE BASS的音量非常的小,以至于在演出的时候不得不需要许多贝司手,这在现在看来是非常不可思议的。此外,DOUBLE BASS还有一个特点就是其指板上没有标记音高的“品丝”,因此很多音准欠佳的贝司手很难在指板上迅速而准确地找到准确的把位。LEO FENDER发现了这些问题,考虑用什么乐器来替代庞大的贝司。
30年代,出现过一种电气化的贝司,这种贝司是没有共鸣箱的,靠一个简单的拾音器来得到声音。这种贝司出现以后反响并不热烈,与此同时。40年代的时候由于音乐的需要,许多吉他手被迫失业,因为由于舞曲的盛行,乐队的规模被迫缩小,导致当时还是属于伴奏乐器的吉他无用武之地。这些失业的贝司手找到了LEO FENDER,因为他们觉得DOUBLE BASS过于难学,他们需要一个乐器,简单,易学。
LEO FENDER在美国的ORANGE郡,偶然看到了一直墨西哥流浪乐队,他突然发现乐队的一个乐手正在弹奏一种类似吉他的乐器(大家可以在电影《墨西哥往事》中看到这个乐器)这个情景给LEO很大的启发,原来贝司可以像吉他一样弹奏,LEO又在一种叫做MANDOBASS的乐器得到了另外一种启发(MANDOBASS是一种类似曼陀铃的乐器,弹奏方式和DOUBLE BASS一样)这种乐器上是有像吉他一样品格的。根据这些条件,LEO FENDER开始研制新的电贝司。
FENDER在此时已经日趋成熟,TELECASTER(或称为BORADCASTER)的设计已经让许多人所接受。LEO 决定以TELECASTER为原型设计。同时LEO还招募了一些贝司手来帮他研制贝司。在很短的时间内原型便研制成功。由于是首次尝试,所以难免有些拼拼凑凑的感觉。由于难以找到能够适合贝司琴弦强度的卷弦器,LEO 只好把DOUBLE BASS的卷弦器安装上去。另外琴弦也是他们特制的。琴头依然采用TELECASTER特别的小琴头,这时LEO又犯难了,它难以把握琴颈的长度,因为他需要找到一种长度,这个长度能够让贝司手舒适的把握。并且能够保持很好的平衡性,又可以尽可能的长。LEO借了本他的秘书的物理教科书,他的秘书的名字叫Elizabeth Nagel Hayzlett她是一位UCLA的学生。很偶然的LEO发现了34英寸这个数据,便试验了起来,结果很满意,所以BASS的琴颈的有效长度便为34英寸。枫木制造。<;由于BASS的琴体比较大,所以LEO在原有的TELECASTER中做了些许改进,改进的贝司琴体为双切设计。双切设计的琴体更有利于整体的平衡性。这种设计在3年以后的STRATOCASTER的到了更充分的应用。
型号配件
早期的型号的配件为黑色护板,和拆卸式的琴桥盖板,一个单线圈拾音器,和TELE相同的一组音量音色控制。
整琴已经制造完毕,接下来便是起名字了,LEO把新的电贝司命名为Precision电贝司,precision的意思为精确,因为琴颈上的品格,让贝司手能够很好的控制音准。准确的进行演奏。
Precision BASS在1952年的乐器展上进行了展出,立即便收到了很多乐手的注意,因为其小巧的外形和方便的控制,FENDER Precision BASS立即成为贝司手的新宠爱。以后FENDER公司将这款贝司更名为51’ Precision——BASS。以纪念其历史价值。并且成为美国FENDER CLASSIC(经典)系列的一员。
需要指出的是,fender P bass曾经一度称霸了全球各地的录音棚,现今世界上的电贝司品牌型号更是五花八门,然而DOUBLE BASS却没有被淘汰,甚至在相当多传统的jazz乐队中占据着自己不可动摇的地位。这是因为DOUBLE BASS由于其特有的发声结构,具有很多电贝司无法比拟的特点,因此电贝司决不是DOUBLE BASS的替代品,而是其源于DOUBLE BASS的另外一种独立的乐器。
